WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Marathon County’s Diversity Affairs Commission has voted to move the first version of the “Community for All” resolution onto the County’s Executive Committee for consideration next week.
The first version was the longer version which contains 13 paragraphs. In addition to expressing support for those of all races, genders, sexual orientation, and religious beliefs it also contains data regarding those communities from sources such as the Marathon County Life Report, ALICE report, and healthiest Wisconsin.
The shorter version stripped out the statistical data and adds a paragraph stating “the Board is committed to supporting the current state and federal laws providing for the protection and reservation of the civil rights, freedom, safety, and security of all its residents.”
Both versions contain language calling for the “active welcoming and valuing [of] people with different perspectives and experiences,” while reaffirming diversity as one of the County’s core values.
Commissioners did discuss a handful of revisions to the document on Thursday but ultimately decided to move the original forward as written. Some on the committee expressed concern about taking too much out of the resolution, while others wanted to merge portions of the two into one document.

The documents were included as part of Thursday’s agenda packet. You can see them for yourself by clicking here.
Thursday’s special meeting allowed the Commission to get the matter passed and onto the Executive Committee in time to allow the resolution to be included with the materials for their next meeting which is next Thursday at 4:30 PM in the board room. Should the Executive Committee approve it, the measure would then go to the full Board of Supervisors for consideration later this month.
The Diversity Affairs Commission does not have the authority to send items directly to the full board.
