WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The application period has closed for the Marathon County Library Director position.
Library Board Chair Sharon Hunter has confirmed to WSAU news that there were 11 applications received for the position, including one internal candidate.
At least five candidates are set to be interviewed by the board in a closed session this Thursday. With Monday, July 19th set aside as an alternate date for interviews. Hunter says if a second round of interviews is required those will be held in early August.
She adds that the timeline for an announcement will depend on how quickly the preferred candidate accepts the position and is available to start work.

Whoever takes the position will be replacing Ralph Illick, who resigned from his position with the library after he was placed on unpaid administrative leave in late May. The reason for that has not yet been made clear, though we do know that it has something to do with a complaint brought forward by a group of employees.
It has been reported that the complaint against Illick could have something to do with workplace culture.
Two other employees, Matthew Derpinghaus and Thomas O’Neil, were also placed on leave. The status of their employment with the library is unclear.
The county has retained Milwaukee-based von Briesen & Roper to assist in the case. A report on their investigation has not yet been released.
The next regular meeting of the Library Board of Trustees is scheduled for July 19th at noon. That’s also when a final report from von Briesen & Roper on the situation is due, according to information released following the last Board of Trustees meeting on June 21st.
